17 year old Disney star Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, known simply as Zendaya, is an American teen actress, singer and dancer has been signed to play the late songstress Aaliyah in the upcoming Lifetime biopic ‘Aaliyah: Princess of R&B.’

Based on Christopher John Farley’s ‘Aaliyah: More Than A Woman,’ Lifetime’s ‘Aaliyah: Princess of R&B’ will chronicle the stars career from age 10 on ‘Star Search,’ to her tragic plane crash at age 22.

Despite the network’s gesture, Aaliyah’s family is reportedly upset about the film being made.

And  despite her untimely passing that ended up cutting her rise to super stardom short, we have a great appreciation for the legacy she has left behind.
