REVOLT TV says #HELLOHARLEMNYC @ThePark112
(New York) July 15, 2014 – If actions speak louder than words then last night, over 250 VIPs in business, philanthropy and entertainment spoke loudly that they support the youth of Harlem. Park 112 in Harlem hosted the second installment of REVOLT TV‘s community initiative, "HELLO Harlem" – a summer series to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem (BGCH). Businesses that were represented include JP Morgan & Chase, USA EEOC, Citibank, NYC Law Department, The City of New York, Universal Republic, VH-1, ABC Television and the National Action Network.
The evening began with the red carpet and the support was impressive. VIPs included Lew Tucker (Owner, Park 112), David Paterson (Former Governor of New York), Peter Thomas (Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta), Mr. Broadway (Furious Five/Hip Hop Pioneer), Nina Flowers (The Apollo), Ashley Ennis(ABC’s “The Chew”), Vaughn Mack (Bad Boy Entertainment), Hisham Tawfiq (NBC’s “The Blacklist”), Marc John Jeffries (“Losing Isaiah”/”Notorious”) and Floss Magazine’s Ameliaismore. (Couldn’t resist..lol)
Soon as the guest arrived they were invited to taste Ciroc pinapple or mango. Mango was the flavor of the day because the bartenders were swamped with mango requests. I have to agree it was delicious! As Revolt TV’s DJ Hannah Rad was spinning, the ambience of Park 112 took on a celebratory atmosphere. It was wonderful to see professionals of all industries: interior design, lawyers, marketers, athletes, authors even a concert rep from Yahoo (FYI: they are going to start streaming concerts) gather to financially support the initiative to raise funds for the Boy’s & Girl’s Club of Harlem.
HELLO Harlem is a community campaign specifically designed to redefine the fundraising landscape by infusing charity and entertainment to raise interest, awareness and support for the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem (BGCH). Defined as an effort to Help Expand Life’s Limitless Opportunities, the campaign draws upon influential relationships with the who’s who of NYC philanthropists, entrepreneurs and civic leaders who support the BGCH mission and provide education, social and leadership opportunities for the children and youth of Harlem.
After a couple hours of great music and delicious hors d’oeuvres Mike Houston the MC invited everyone to come to the front of the stage. He spoke about Hello Harlem and the purpose of the event. However, the action of bringing a youth representative from BGCH to speak to the audience resonated loudly the importance of this event and its intiative. As Mike interviewed Austin, he explained what BGCH meant to him. He started the program 8 years ago and now he is a youth mentor. When you give you get! BGCH gave to this young man and now he is giving back by encourging and helping other youth to make better choices for themselves by inspiring them to explore and dream.
Next on the stage was REVOLT TV’s VP of Communications, Kai Wright. He thanked all the sponsors; AQUAhydrate, Sean John and Ciroc,and then spoke about the series reminding everyone that there were 8 more installations of #HelloHarlemNYC for eveyone to attend. He then introduced Maya Azucena. A soul artist and activist Maya Azucena gave an electrifying performance singing a medley of her songs including; “Come With Me,” “Fearless,” and “Dance Revolution.” As she sang each song her passion for her music became more exuberant. She stepped off the stage and interacted with the audience and guests as she belted out notes of exaltation. She then took a sip to wet her throat and explained that her next selection was dedicated to the youth. As a youth activist (amoung many other agendas of activism she supports) Maya explained why this song she selected was important and pertinent to the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem. That mission is to provide access and opportunities for youth to reach their full potential as responsible members of the community. The song was "Black Butterfly" and her rendition of it was both contemporary like our youth and soulful like the history of Harlem.
The HELLO Harlem summer series will continue every Monday through September 8, 2014. The events are invitation-only and you must become a donor to attend.
